2011 bigBang! Mixes Social Innovation with Venture Capital Sensibility
Dallas Social Venture Partners bring together “suits” and “jeans” to deliver a positive impact to North Texas.
Dallas, TX – On Friday, June 17th, North Texas experienced the sparking of a big wave of support for their communities. For the second year in a row, Dallas Social Venture Partners hosted the bigBANG! event to bring together people who know how to make a difference. The event featured more than 50 foundations, organizations, networks and companies that are committed to creating positive change.
Presented in support by the Communities Foundation of Texas, the event featured 20 Innovators representing four different causes on a venture capital style pitch stage. To add to the excitement, a pool of $10,000 dollars was started by Communities Foundation of Texas to help leverage community giving towards the Innovators. The Innovators represented four core causes relating to education, food, issues impacting girls and women and community service. Each Innovator received hours of coaching from area business professionals that helped the groups succinctly craft their message and deliver a targeted pitch that raised greater awareness and financial support for their organization.
bigBang! also featured a socially-conscious marketplace where a diverse array of triple-bottom-line businesses and social enterprises were given an opportunity to showcase their products to event attendees. To help contribute to the growth and success of the marketplace businesses, the Social Enterprise Alliance North Texas Chapter, provided the exhibitors with professional mentoring and assistance with the development of business prospectus’ to prepare for funding opportunities.
Sunshine Avenue was pleased to join the hundreds of do-gooders that attended the bigBANG! event and get a preview of the next BIG thing.
